The Centre for Energy Studies (CES) is an academic research institution of the Tribhuvan University at Institute of Engineering. It conducts both technical and policy research and has a part to play, both in the development of sustainable technologies and energy innovations.
CES conducts basic researches, application studies and large research projects in the fields of the renewable energy dynamics and climate change dynamics where science and engineering are integrated. In addition, it has been promoting the international and domestic collaborative activities as the inter-university joint-research center. We offer several experimental facilities as well as skills about numerical models, and physical facilities.
The Center was established in 1999 under the umbrella of the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Tribhuvan University (TU). The Main Objective of the center is to enhance promotion and development of Renewable and Clean Energy Technologies through study, research, human resource development at various levels, and information dissemination for the sustainable development. Since then, it has been on record for giving 42 trainings, 50 research and policy study activities, 73 awareness programs, 40 workshops and seminars, 1 national conference, and 4 international conferences. As an institution within IOE/TU, capacity building of local manpower is the main focused activities of CES. CES has supported and provided assistance to the development and implementation academic courses on M.Sc. Engineering in Renewable Energy Engineering (MSREE), M.Sc. Engineering in Energy Systems Planning and Management (MSESPM), M.Sc. in Technology & Innovation Management (MSTIM), M.Sc. in Energy Efficient Building (MSEEB), and M.Sc. in Climate Change and Development (MSCCD). It has established Energy Systems Planning and Analysis Unit under APPEAR program to establish CES as the think tank for the government during formulation, development, implementation and review of energy and climate change related strategies, plans and policies. It has established National Energy Efficiency Training and Demonstration laboratory with the support of GIZ/NEEP and Erasmus+ for developing qualified human resource in the field of clean and efficient technology development and management. Zero Energy House, and Energy Park are also the parts of CES for research students and also demonstration sites for all concerned in the application and development of Clean and Renewable Energy Technologies. Center for Energy Studies and its working team have been actively involved during development of major energy and low carbon development strategies and policies like Renewable Energy Prospective Plan of Nepal 2000-2020, Renewable Energy Subsidy Policies, National Action Plan for Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs), Low Carbon Economic Development Strategy (LCEDS) for Nepal, Water Resources and Energy Vision 2050 for Nepal, National Biomass Energy Strategy 2017, National Energy Efficiency Strategy 2018 etc.
CES will conduct the research activities as a leading international research institute in collaboration with domestic and international institutes and universities to tackle the important issues.
